There are numerous beautiful hotels, hostels, vacation rentals and other choice accommodations in
Santa Cruz, Bolivia
that offer the comfort and amenities most choosy travelers want, and because this is not a large city, all are centrally located. You’re sure to be surprised at how affordable they are as well, and will easily find one that meets your specific needs.
Throughout Bolivia, and here in the Department of Santa Cruz you'll find all types of 3-5 star hotels (called hoteles). Two-star accommodations are usually called "residenciales" and 1-star or completely unrated inns are "alojamientos". There are plenty of hostels (hostales), resorts and eco-resorts (named the same in Spanish), vacation rentals (usually called "cabañas") and even campgrounds where you can pitch your tent (campamentos). Oh, and by the way, "moteles" are not the same thing as "motels" in the U.S. They usually rent rooms by the hour, if you know what I mean. So while you can rent a room for an entire night, no other services are provided. Occasionally country or eco-lodges (if they do not qualify to be called resorts) will be called "balnearios" - but only if they have a pool or are near a lake or lagoon where you can "bañarte" (take a swim). Do not confuse these with our many public balnearios that have no lodging (simply a swimming pool and restaurant). To be safe, always ask if they provide lodging (alojamiento) or not. This is roughly the vocabulary you can expect to use when deciding upon the quality/cost of lodging you'll need. Please be forewarned that in Bolivia having "stars" may not necessarily mean the company has actually been rated, qualified or registered. Above 3 stars you can usually rely on the rating being genuine, but below that you really cannot. Let's just say some are "self-rated". This is why personal recommendations are so important. An inn, for example, may have no internationally recognized rating at all and be an excellent place to stay! Of course, no one knows Bolivia's hotels better than Bolivia's travel agents:
