ARTIFICIAL LIMBS CENTER (Centro de Miembros Artificiales) is a La Paz San Pedro Rotary Club initiative that offers several exciting volunteer positions in La Paz, Bolivia depending on your qualifications, available duration and desires. At this time, the need for volunteers is very urgent. The center needs administrative, fundraising and research staff and also urgently needs a Certified Prosthetist Orthopedist. THE JESSIKA BORDA FOUNDATION provides aid to victims of crime in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Named after Jessika Borda, a young woman whose life was taken in a carjacking, it also plans and implements programs, projects and events to create awareness about crime prevention and education, human rights and more. MARYKNOLL BOLIVIA The Maryknoll Bolivia Mission Immersion Program offers a chance for North Americans to join the Maryknoll movement of Catholic Sisters, Fathers, Brothers, and Lay Missioners in Bolivia, either as part of a group exposure trip, or by volunteering for 6 weeks to 1 year in Cochabamba. Examples include work with schoolchildren, orphans, elderly, special education and HIV/AIDS, prisons, and parish groups.

SENDA VERDE is a privately run animal refuge and ecotourism retreat in Coroico, Bolivia. Senda Verde provides the best care possible for animals rescued from illegal trafficking in a natural environment and under technical and scientific conditions. MIMA FOUNDATION sends volunteer medical missions to areas of Bolivia (and several other countries) where specialized medical and health care is lacking. VOLUNTARIO GLOBAL, which is headquartered in Argentina, offers you the opportunity to volunteer with a sustainable community development project in Vallegrande, Bolivia where program coordinators will welcome you and also give you the chance to explore this small Bolivian town famous for being the place where Che Guevara was killed and buried. REACH BOLIVIA, located in La Paz, is a low-cost volunteer program that offers you the opportunity to work with homeless children, hospitals and therapy programs, and the children of families who live in San Pedro Prison. The organization also works with universities and internships, so students can do practical internships in different business in Bolivia.

GREEN HEARTS PROJECT, based out of Tarija, Bolivia, is working with local indigenous populations and private land owners to set aside forest reserves in various regions of Bolivia including Tarija, La Paz, and Beni. Green Hearts Project teaches environmental education to school-aged children who participate in planting trees. The project needs volunteers to help plant over 2 million trees over the next few years in various areas of Bolivia. Planting of these forest reserves will take the shape of enormous green hearts, visible from space. GHP is also working to include Tarija in Earth Hour in March 2010 and to get an ordinance passed in Tarija to limit the use of plastic and polyurethane bags. ICYE BOLIVIA is part of ICYE, an international non-profit youth exchange organization founded in 1964 that promotes youth mobility, intercultural learning and international voluntary service. ICYE Bolivia develops its action through long and short term exchanges combining home stays with voluntary service in a variety of community service projects, just as other ICYE organizations around the world work. ICYE Bolivia's main office is located in La Paz city where permanent staff coordinates activities with the regional groups in the cities of Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Sucre and Tarija. CHUCHINI WILDLIFE REFUGE This ecological and archeological reserve is in desperate need of volunteers at this time. If you would like to volunteer, contact them now on this page. You can work directly with rescued birds and animals if you have experience, but you can also help with forest and property maintenance, feeding and clean-up, gardening or anything else required at this beautiful, now at-risk-of-being-sold wildlife refuge. CENTRO CULTURAL SAN ISIDRO is a center that provides theater, music, cultural and athletic programs for disadvantaged kids from 2 of the poorest (and largest) neighborhoods of Santa Cruz, in an effort to keep youth off the streets. WANIDES means Washingtonians pro Niño Desvalido or Association of Washingtonians for Needy Bolivian Children. To date all funds raised by WANIDES have been directed to the Instituto Oncológico del Oriente Boliviano in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. This is the only public cancer hospital in the eastern region of Bolivia. Twenty percent of the patients at this hospital are children. Funds raised have been used to purchase a cardiac monitor, pay for medication and chemotherapy, provide occupational therapy for mothers, and purchase first aid kits for the Red Cross. INTI WARA YASSI is a Bolivian Non-Governmental Organisation staffed by people who come from around the world to volunteer in Bolivia. It is one of Bolivia's only refuges for abused wild animals. In October 2009 they were visited by Jane Goodall. In 2009 Inti Wara Yassi's Machia Animal Refuge in Villa Tunari was being destroyed for a road. Read more. AGUA:YAKU (formerly Simple Water Solutions) is an Evangelical Free Church of Canada Mission (EFCCM) project based in Santa Cruz, Bolivia that teaches simple, inexpensive water well drilling techniques and other appropriate technologies that improve the health, welfare, and economic production of small farm families and communities in Bolivia. More than 40 percent of Bolivia’s population lacks access to proper sanitation, and 37 percent lacks drinkable water. TALITA CUMI CHILDREN'S HOME began in 1999 under the name Fe y Esperanza (Faith and Hope). It's first location was a property seized by the Bolivian government from a drug trafficker and declared for use as a children's home until the man was released from prison. Through prayer, perseverance and hard work, along with the contributions from missionaries, their supporters, and frequent short-term missions teams, the home is now in a new location with a much brighter future. Donating and coming to volunteer in Bolivia are both effective and rewarding ways to help the children who call Talita Cumi their home.

Volunteer in Ecuador! I lived in Ecuador for 4 years and am happy to recommend this organization that offers volunteer programs in ecological, conservation, social, educational, communitarian and health projects all around Ecuador.

Prison Fellowship International PFI is a global association of over 100 national Prison Fellowship organizations, each of which is indigenous, volunteer-based and trans-denominational. There is a PFI Office in Bolivia, however I have only been in contact with PFI's international headquarters.
