Finally! Bagels in Santa Cruz, Bolivia

by Anonymous

Many years ago there used to be this American lady who made bagels here in Santa Cruz but she moved on to another country and those of us who love them were left without any bagels! The other night I was watching TV and found out there's a new bagel place in Santa Cruz called Tahona Bagels. It's on Calle Florida #16. The guy was saying there's a Tahona Bagels Facebook group too - but I never found it. They were showing the most amazing bagel sandwiches of all kinds! The lady was talking about salmon bagels - I assume she means lox. Has anybody been there yet? Do they toast the bagels like they're supposed to or do they serve them raw (it didn't look like they were toasting them on TV) in which case, YUCK! So just wondering if anyone's tried them yet.

another tahona bagels northside

Tahona now has another shop inside the new Fildalga mall on the 3rd ring and Banzer, across the street from the Hipermaxi. They still don't sell bagels. Only bagel sandwiches. :-(

My daughter and I had lunch one day in Tahona Bagels, and it was a delight. Except for the fact that they didn't offer pumpernickel bagels, the selection was lovely. We had combos, bagel sandwiches. They were filling and delicious. Although phillistines may believe that only toasted bagels are palatable, I believe that this only holds for English muffins. A good bagel is good whether it is hot or cold, toasted or not. What you put on your bagel is what determines how it tastes. Butter or cream cheese is fine on toasted bagels, but a combination of meats, cheeses and veggies on a bagel makes it a treat, indeed. Although I'd never eat an English muffin untoasted because it does taste unfinished, a batgel is quite done after it's come out of the oven. Although bagels and schmear are fine toasted, Tahona Bagels are scrumtious filled and cold, or hot. I believe they offer both. Do give them a try; it'll make your day. And their mixed fruit drinks are yummy, too.
