Plastic bottle recycling initiative in Santa Cruz, Bolivia

by Grant Lee
(Santa Cruz de la Sierra)

Hi, I am a teacher of ICT at the Santa Cruz international school in Bolivia. I am trying to raise funds to buy recycling bins to put around the school.

My homeroom who are in 9th grade, have been trying to collect all of the plastic bottles from around the school to recycle them instead of letting them go to landfill. During the first trimester and a half, we have collected over 1000 plastic bottles, but it still not enough and there is a long way to go.

We have also had a small campaign to try to educate the other members of the school, and showed why we should be recycling, and even up-cycled bottles into flowers, vases, and stools.

Please help us to reach our goal. This is not just about buying the bins, but about promoting awareness for the future generations.
Many thanks in advance ;-}

Hi there. I was just in Santa Cruz to visit friend and obviously noticed a lot of plastic bottles and garbage on the streets and wondered what a person could do to help solve the problem?

I am happy to read something is being done about plastics. I am saving some plastic bottles to cut them into tiles. I would like to hear of some more ideas to recycle them. Keep up the good job Mr!!!
