Islands in Bolivia

by Jason
(Pailon, Bolivia)

My wife and I were married on an island and unintentionally spent our first two anniversaries on an island as well. Now it is a tradition. We now live in Bolivia near Santa Cruz and were wondering if there were any good island getaways here, the closer to Santa Cruz the better. I know there are some up in Lake Titicaca. Any others or any you recommend in Titicaca? Thanks!

Islands in Bolivia

Have you been to Santa Rosa de la Mina? It's between San Ramón and San Xavier. They have three lakes there. I think I remember one of them having a tiny island, but contact them (owner Herman Antelo speaks perfect English) because it might be a peninsula.

Also, Biocentro Güembé, the butterfly sanctuary in Santa Cruz has 3 lakes and one of them has an island. You can row out there if you go fishing but I'm not sure there's actually anything on the island. They do, however, have some beautiful cabins right on the waterfront.
