How long should it take to get the Interpol check

We are from Canada and are in the process of applying for our 1 year residency visa. We have completed all of the requirements and are just waiting for our Interpol certificate. It has now been over 23 days since we submitted it and our 30 day visa is about to expire. I understand that we can go to Migration and get an extension of the 30 days, which I will be doing on Monday. How long does the Interpol check normally take and is there someone we can contact to speed up the process?

My second question is how long will it take to get the visa once we have submitted everything. Migration says it only takes 10 to 15 days, but I read on your site that it could take up to 4 months.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

How long should it take to get the Interpol check

Hi. Interpol certificates are normally taking 20-30 days, which is why on our site we always recommend doing that part of the process first. It's nerve-wracking for foreigners who's entry visas are about to expire.

Requesting an extension of your specific purpose visa could be one option but I would suggest you first return to Interpol and give it one last try, show them you are very concerned, and remind them that your visa is about to expire. This usually works...

I spoke to the lawyer we work with on residency applications through our Expat Services offering and she can accompany you to Interpol if you need her to. If you would like her to go with you use the form at the bottom of this page to send me an email here.
