How many toys and clothes can I bring into Bolivia tax free?

I support a child in Bolivia through a Christian mission. I am traveling to see the child. How much am I permitted to bring into the country without having to declare, or pay taxes?

Remove all tags and packaging
by: Greg

They usually charge taxes when you bring in a lot of items that are clearly new, have tags or packaging so the best thing is to pack everything unpackaged. Bring receipts with you (separately, in your wallet or something) just in case you need them, but for the most part if your items are just packed without bags or boxes or tags and are among your regular clothing, it won't be a problem.

You can always tell them it's a donation to a children's home.

Clothes and stuff for kids
by: Cynthia

I have found that the officilas at the LPB airport don't care at all about what you bring in, especially as far as taxes. If you have a new iMac in the box, they might ask about it, but toys for kids they understand, and they don't open all luggage anyway. They will put your luggage thru a scanner when you arrive, but unless they see suspicious stuff like kiddie daggers! they don't care, and most likely won't open it. They can tell you are not going to become a toy vendor! If you are not overweight (most airlines let you take 2 bags) and the toys are out of the box, you are fine.Explain that it's for a kid. You shouldn't be taking more than one small suitcase of stuff for one kid anyway because the culture is built on fairness and jealousies can become a problem. Why did Jose get all those presents and I didn't?!! Or give the stuff to the parents very sureptitiously so the whole neighborhood doesn't see stuff all at once. That's my experience with a couple of god-children in Bolivia and Peru.

Is there a way to know the amount of taxes? Do travelers need to have receipts for all they have?

Items that can be imported tax free into Bolivia
by: BoliviaBella

You can find a list of items you can bring in through the airport without paying taxes. Anything else is subject to taxes, including clothing, toys and gifts for others.
