Trying to choose where to live: Bolivia vs. Ecuador
Very simply, what are the major differences in lifestyle between Bolivia and Ecuador, and, which country offers the most to an expat American retiree? Thank you.

I find it sad that Mr. Morales is hard on Americans by: Anonymous
I am no favorite of America's right-wing. I am a pro-democracy advocate and have been writing truth to power in American politics for over a decade. I am a computer technician, retired at 64, and my paltry $1007.00 Social Security Disability payments place me in America's poverty zone. I am an excellent writer and seek to retire with dignity rather than as a pauper. I am also interested in the rich past of Ancient Cultures and wish to write about them and form my opinions based on research and local legends handed down via generations of tradition and knowledge. I guess I will have to check out Peru, and then Equador. I will be alone and possibly that will change one day when I am settled. Thank you for the info, albeit I am surprised that I would be unwelcome in Bolivia. I am attempting to find a desirable location to retire in for the rest of my life - not a mere visit.

Why everyone opting Ecuador for the life after the retirement. I believe Bolivia is better than not so little is but much better than the Ecuador. I said so because I feel so much refreshed while I am in Bolivia. The people there are so kind and lovely.

Ecuador sounds like the choice for you. Write when you get work.

Bolivia vs Ecuador. by: Anonymous
I've done a lot of reading on both. If you like the ocean Ecuador has a coast with many excellent beaches and great seafood. Both are affordable but due to an influx of foreigners, especially Americans, the more favored locations like Cuenca have gotten more expensive. Bolivia is a much larger country with a smaller population. A very large percentage of it's population lives in just a few cities. Medical facilities in Ecuador are excellent in the largest cities, it has excellent new roads, and as an OPEC member gas is very cheap there, $1.58 a gallon last I read. And a huge difference is Ecuador has streamlined the process to become a resident there while Bolivia charges high fees with much red tape to live there. The President, Evo Morales, isn't fond of the U.S. and has made it difficult for Americans to stay longer than 90 days in a calendar year. Ecuador is actively encouraging Americans to retire there. And the U.S. Dollar is Ecuador's currency.
