Santa Cruz de la Sierra to Puerto Quijarro highway?

Hello, We're considering to enter Bolivia from Brazil and travel along from Puerto Quijarro to Santa Cruz, stopping on the way in Santiago de

Chiquitos. The "death train" is obvious option, but is there any alternative? I found some information that paved highway has been
complied, if so are there any shared taxies available covering this route? I imagine that this can speed up travel time at least twice.
If you have any information about it please share ;-)

Best regards,
Marcin

Santa Cruz de la Sierra to Puerto Quijarro highway?
by: Gijs

Travelling by bus from Santa Cruz to Puerto Quijarro used to be one hell of a trip because the road was largely unpaved. Now only 40 KM of the road is not paved, so the bus is a good option as well. Not sure what time the buses leave exactly. If you wish to visit Santiago de Chiquitos by train (very beautiful and authentic place) you have to get off in Robore and take a taxi from there to Santiago de Chiquitos. Enjoy! Gijs
