Jesuit Missions of Bolivia - How to Get There, Where to Stay

just took this trip. If you want to see the countryside there is now day train leaving for San Jose 1 pm from Santa Cruz Bimodal terminal and it goes on to Brazil. There is a diner car video and semi-cama seats. You get to San Jose about 8 pm. There is a day flota bus leaving San Jose to San Ignacio at 11am, arriving around 9 pm. A new hotel on the square is Hotel San Ignacio. Excellent -- run by the dioseces of Bolivia. There is a day bus 11 am to Concepcion arriving around 3:30 pm, and you have time to visit the church and museum etc and get a 5:30 pm bus to San Xavier getting in around 7 pm. Easy buses from there to Santa Cruz (about 4 hours). Also now all the major towns --San xavier, Concepcion, San Ignatio, San Jose have ATM machines! Great trip! In the towns I recommend using the mototaxis for getting around. They are very professional. Look for people with vests. Very cheap 2.5-3B
