Chalet La Suisse is easily one of the best restaurants in both La Paz and Santa Cruz. It's almost always highly recommended, and for good reason. Chalet La Suisse has a huge menu offering and an ample wine list as well. From the more traditional Bolivian foods, to international steaks, pastas, soups and salads, to llama and even ostrich, there is something for everyone at Chalet La Suisse. It is located in the Zona Sur (southern zone) in Calacoto, in La Paz. You can also enjoy this restaurant in Santa Cruz in the Sirari neighborhood.
In La Paz, Chalet La Suisse is large and rather dark so plan on enjoying your dinner by candlelight. Start off with a pisco sour (yum). We enjoyed escargot. I even got my snail-hating friend to try it and she liked it. We continued with various steak and pasta dishes and polished things off with one of the smoothest, creamiest (albeit not the chocolatiest) chocolate mousses I've ever had.
In Santa Cruz it occupies a modern, well-lighted building on Los Gomeros street in Sirari. Definitely worth a visit while you're in La Paz or Santa Cruz.
Chalet La Suisse is owned by Swiss-born chef Markus Rüegg and his wife Marlene.
