23 April is World Book and Copyright Day. It is also Día del Idioma Español (Spanish Language Day.) On the 23rd of April, 1616 Miguel Cervantes Saavedra, author of the “Don Quixote” novel died in Madrid. It is believed he so contributed to the Spanish language that in homage to him, April 23rd has been designated to commemorate the Spanish language.
The United Nations has named April 23rd as World Book and Copyright Day. In Santa Cruz, the Municipal Government reveals each year the name of an author who will be awarded this year's prize for best Bolivian author. This will take place at the Press Room of the Municipal Government Building on the main plaza on Friday, 23 April at 10:00 a.m. It's free and open to the public.
