Where can I find charque in the US?

by Jenny
(Annapolis MD)

My daughter spent several weeks in Bolivia this summer and loved the food. She has looked up some recipes and we are having problems finding some of the ingredients. Is there an North American substitute for Charque.

Cut beef in slices and put in a lot of salt on it to help dry up ..you can use a dehydrator to dry the beef and when is ready just boil the beef until is tender and easy to pull apart and just fried with oil and is ready. You can find the mote "the big corn " in Latino stores , some el "viajero cheese" hard boiled eggs
And ready ..Bonn petite

charque = jerky (dry beef meat)

Funny that a native-american word sounds almost the same on both countries. It was and is a small world!
