Foreign aid workers and others who come independently play a very important role in Bolivia. Many social and health care services, as well as environmental conservation and economic (income-generating) opportunities depend on the generosity of foreign individuals, companies, organizations and governments both within Bolivia and overseas. Thanks to donations from the European Union and other countries like Germany, Denmark, Japan, and the U.S., hospitals, schools, water wells and sewage systems, and other large projects have benefited thousands of Bolivian families.

But I am most amazed by the stories I hear every day of people who give of their time or donate funds on their own without belonging to a specific organization: like a doctor who performed a life-saving operation on a child and the family who opened their home to that child and his parents for the months of physical therapy that followed; a group of Bolivian women who live in the U.S. who raise funds for cancer patients in Santa Cruz; and others. You don’t have to travel to Bolivia to give of your time and skills, or donate money to a special organization, but it can be a very eye-opening experience to see things first hand. At the very least, you will probably come away with a greater appreciation for the opportunities you have in your own country. If you plan to live and work in Bolivia, take a look at my "Live Here" section. It contains special information for residents and will be useful in preparing for your move to Bolivia. The "Tourism" section provides additional information on travel and accommodations as great regional sites and attractions. The "Things to Do" section lists many ways to entertain yourself or otherwise spend your free time. In this section I will list some of the groups and organizations that I know have greatly benefited the Bolivian people. Most of these organizations need people and at the very least depend on the generous donations of others to continue their work. If you are interested in donating money or time for Bolivia, you can contact them to ask how you can become involved. The experience will change your life! Check out this list of organizations and contact them so you can
