Sonso Festival at the Cabanas del Pirai

by Bella
(Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia)

Sunday the 20th of September visit the Cabanas at the Pirai River for the 5th Annual Sonso Festival. Sonso is delicious and typical to Santa Cruz. It is made from mashed yuca mixed with cheese and baked in traditional clay ovens or wrapped around a stick and baked over open coals (as you can see in the photo above). Typically sonso accompanies teatime but in Santa Cruz at the Pirai River this Sunday you can enjoy it beginning at 9:00 a.m. In fact, between 9:00 am and 10:00 it's FREE! Another great chance for visitors, tourists, and foreign residents to get a taste (literally) for daily life in Santa Cruz. Sonso is my absolutely FAVORITE tea time food. Go get some!!! Bella.
