The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Modern Art Museum) of Santa Cruz de la sierra celebrates Museum Day. International Museum Day has been celebrated on the 18th of May all over the world since 1977 when the XII General Assembly of the ICOM (International Council of Museums) resolved to set this date in Moscow. The ICOM, created in 1946, i a non-governmental organization dependent on UNESCO.

The ICOM groups museums and professionals and is directed at conserving, maintaining, and communicating the world's natural and cultural, present and future, tangible and intangible heritage.

Since each country has its own traditions, the ICOM recommends that members organize events around the 18th of May. "Museums are an important instrument for cultural exchange, to enrich cultures and advance mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples".

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Modern Art Museum) of Santa Cruz de la Sierra has planned two activities:

1. Videos on our artists will be simultaneously projected.

2. A play called "A Day at the Museum" will be presented for schoolchildren. Actors are Gerónimo Mamani and Berenice de la Cruz, both graduates of the National School of Theater. The play is about Don Lorgio, the custodian and Doña Maria, the museum janitor. Don Lorgio will take the children through the museum salons telling them about our artists. However, will Doña Maria let him tell his stories?
