Pizza Parlors in Santa Cruz

There are lots of pizza parlors in Santa Cruz. You’ll find they may use ingredients not always typical in other countries, like hard-boiled eggs or yellow sweet corn, eggplant or potatoes. Most offer varieties that will be familiar to you like ham and mushroom, artichoke, pineapple and jalapeño, so try to be at least a little adventurous when you first order one.

You might notice that the tomato sauce is slightly more sweet here than in other countries (so is ketchup, I have no idea why). You’ll also notice most restaurants use thin crusts. You’ll have a hard time finding the extremely thick, cheese-filled, extra chewy crusts found on many American pizzas.

Some restaurants specialize only in pizza but many restaurants offer much more, or it may be just one of many dishes they offer on their menus. Some have several locations, like Capri, Elis or Fridolin while others are well-established long-running restaurants that have only one location. In any case, you’ll notice many of these restaurants are classified under various types of food because of this.

Most pizza parlors do NOT deliver to your home or office. Instead, you can call ahead and then pick your pizza up, or you can call ahead to order, then call a taxi company (radiomóvil) to pick it up for you and deliver it to your house. If you do so, you have to know what the exact total of your order is so they can be sure to send a cab that has that amount of money available, because you will pay the driver back when he/she delivers the pizza to your home.
