new life in Santa Cruz

hi Bella, great website! I have met a lovely man (a Camba) and am facing the reality of moving to Santa Cruz to be with him. I am very excited about this prospect! His family and friends have been very welcoming but I think it would be better for our relationship if I made my own friends too. Are there any gyms/ yoga/ evening classes specifically aimed at expats where I may be able to make some friends? Any other suggestions welcome. I am in my early 30s and don´t have children. It has been a very long time since I had to start afresh!

thank you

Hi Anonymous, thanks for your great comments. Makes it all worth while. There are a lot of gyms here, but none are really just for expats. You'll also find plenty of places to do yoga. You'll find foreigners in a lot of different places like parks and plazas, cafés and restaurants, and gyms of course. There used to be many more foreigners here than there are now and many more events. Companies with a lot of foreign personnel used to plan events all the time. Not so much any more.

That's why now we're planning some monthly expat meets through the site in fact. Why don't you sign up on our Expat Meets Sign Up Page where you can enter your name and email through a secure online form (won't be published online) so we can email you when we plan an event and help you get started meeting friends.

Also, I'd like to suggest you return to our Living in Bolivia Forum and scroll down through all the messages and open up the ones that say "Culture Transition Tip No. 1,2,3 etc. and read through them. There are so great tips from Culture Transition Coach Heather Markel about how to make friends and fit in to your new country and how to form a social circle and support system.

In addition, please visit my website exclusively for expats www.gosouthexpat.com - under the RELOCATION and EXPAT EXPERTS sections you'll find all kinds of additional great tips.
