Hey although flying is the quickest there are more environmentally friendly ways to travel long distance. There are a number of cama buses including meals and bathrooms on board. These can be taking over night so you save money on accomodation and it doesnt actually take mush more time. Good luck.

Detailed instructions to reach Samaipata
by: BoliviaBella

Hi Barbara. You'll find detailed instructions for how to reach Samaipata here (taxi names, locations, phones, etc.) - true you'll need to either fly or take a bus to Santa Cruz from La Paz first. Samaipata is about 3 hours by taxi from Santa Cruz.

This is my Samaipata home page. If you click on the text links at the top of the page (Tours Hotels El Fuerte Photos Forum Map Info) you can read all about the fort, get maps, travel information, hotels and hostels, history of the region, etc.

Sorry the pages are a little skewed. I'm working on a new site structure and you may or may not see some blank spaces. If so, just scroll down a bit and you'll see the information.

For more on Samaipata and other destinations click the green TOURISM IN BOLIVIA button on any page of my website. Click the green TRAVEL PLANNER button to read about all the types of transportation, visas, etc. you will need.

Have a great trip, contact us again if you need to, and visit my Samaipata travel forum after you've visited to share your travel story and photos. We'd love to know if you had fun! Bella.

La Paz/Samaipata

Best way is to fly to Santa Cruz (or bus but approx 16/18 hours). Then take a trufi (2.5 hours) from Av Omar Chavez - they leave throughout the day when full - more in am than pm.

...to fly from La Paz to Santa Cruz, then take a cab from there. Google Samaipata and you should pull up some good pages that give info.
