Import taxes
by: Alan

I also would like information on import taxes on household goods and automobiles. My wife is a bolivian citizen who will be returning to Bolivia after two years. I have read that we do not have to pay taxes on used household items. Please email me any information you may have on the subject.
Thank you this website is wonderful.

the harmonized customs tariff code system
by: BoliviaBella

Each country's government determines what taxes will be charged on what items. However, nearly 200 countries also participate in what is called the HARMONIZED SYSTEM of customs tariffs which applies a code to each item manufactured for export. Also, customs taxes depend on the trade agreements that exist between countries. There are a lot of factors that determine what you'll pay in import taxes, including whether or not your items are used or new, which is why a packing list and bill of lading are required. I've written to your email with details.
