Not into roughing it?

San Matías is one of the most remote towns in Santa Cruz, and is located on the border with Brazil, about 285 kilometers East of San Ignacio. It is 800 kilometers Northeast of the city of Santa Cruz, in Bolivia's Pantanal (wetlands) region.

It's not really a Jesuit Mission town, but I've included it here because unless you fly to San Matías, you have to drive through the Chiquitania territory and several of the Jesuit Missions to get here.

Crossing the border you can take the highway to San Luis de Cáceres and Cuiabá, Brazil. I don't know of any up-scale places to stay in or near San Matías, although there are a couple of "balnearios" (swimming areas). If you're not into roughing it, San Matias is not the place to be.
