San Matías is one of the most remote towns in Santa Cruz, and is located on the border with Brazil, about 285 kilometers East of San Ignacio. It is 800 kilometers Northeast of the city of Santa Cruz, in Bolivia's wetlands region. There are few up-scale places to stay in or near San Matías, although there are a couple of "balnearios" (swimming areas). Most accommodations are sparse.
