Flooding in Beni in Northern Bolivia

by BoliviaBella
(Santa Cruz, Bolivia)

The owners of the Chuchini Ecological and Archeological Reserve located 15 kilometers from Trinidad, the capital city of the Department of Beni in Northern Bolivia called in to report today that due to the large amounts of rain in the past few weeks some of the rivers are overflowing.

If you are planning a trip to Trinidad or other parts of Beni, such as Rurrenabaque, please be forewarned that parts of the city of Trinidad have experienced flooding and some roads are impassible. Chuchini, which is located high above the river doesn't flood, but the road to Chuchini is flooded out and there is access by river only at this time.

Usually when there is flooding in Beni the road between Trinidad, San Ignacio de Moxos and Rurrenabaque also floods. This government website, run by the Bolivian highway management agency as of today indicates the road between Trinidad and San Ignacio de Moxos is already closed.

If you have a trip planned within the next few weeks to one of these areas, check with your travel agent or tour operator to get the latest.
