My husband I are going to Sucre and are flying into the airport in Santa Cruz VVI July 29th. We're trying to continue on to Sucre, but are having trouble finding a flight? Is there a reason why?

No need to take the bus !
by: Meg Robinson

Hi, I recently returned from Bolivia and was one of the many people stranded there because of the problems of poor Aerosur. I was able to buy a ticket with BOA very easily though in Santa Cruz the day before travelling. So don't worry, you won't need to take that bus ! A great place to stay in Santa CRuz is Casa Patio Boutuque hotel, think I've got that right. It's a totally charming small hotel built around a
enchanting patio, wonderful food and lovely young owners... one of the nicest places I've stayed in in South Amnerica. Enjoy !!

Travel via BOA
by: Rob

Just a quick note about buying tickets from BOA's website. I traveled from Santa Cruz to Cochabamba July 3. I have purchase my tickets 2 weeks ahead and i was able to purchase it with a CC. Their site is able to process them now.

Possible reason for problem
by: David Boldt

I suspect the problem has to do with the apparent collapse of Aerosur, until recently the country's principal airline. The most recent rescue plan by a US venture capitalist was blocked by the government. So at present the flights are by little airlines like BOA, the government-owned airline, that aren't set up to take reservations from outside the country. Friends of ours in the US recently had similar problems making a reservation from Santa Cruz to La Paz. However, I can assure you that there are planes flying from Santa Cruz to Sucre. (Other friends just returned from there by air.) I would suggest that you either contact a travel agent in Bolivia, or make arrangements when you get here. (In our experience flights to Sucre are only rarely full.) I am sorry I cannor recommend an agency. I hope someone else will. If nothing turns up you can Google "travel agents Santa Crus Bolivia" and take your pick. The one we dealt with recently folded. Anavin Travel is one with a good reputation according to my dentist, whose relative is the owner. You are going to need patience and persistence to get anything done in Bolivia, so you better get used to it now. Nothing is simple. If worse comes to worst you CAN take a bus to Sucre, but it is a terrible trip -- many hours of bad roads, normally at night, but it can be done.
