EXCHANGE HOUSES IN SANTA CRUZ
Currency data courtesy coinmill.com
There are many Exchange Houses (Casas de Cambio de Moneda) in
Santa Cruz,
and most are well known and well established. I've listed only three because I've used them personally. However, I continue to research for you. All can be found at the central plaza in the middle of downtown (Plaza 24 de Septiembre). There are others, but not that I can personally recommend. For example, the owner of one was jailed just a couple of years ago for fraud. And you have to be careful about the bills you accept to ensure they are not counterfeit. Cambio Aleman is always my first choice. It's well-established and trusted. It's been in existence for as long as I can remember. Most also offer checking services. If you need to send a check written from a U.S. Bank account and you don't have a bank account in the U.S. you can pay them the amount you want a check written for, plus a fee for the service, and they will make the check out to whomever you choose. They have accounts in U.S. Banks. They also exchange torn bills sometimes. If you have U.S. Dollars that are torn even slightly, they will not be accepted anywhere (which seems strange to many foreigners, especially since the local
currency
is usually quite torn, old, battered, with pieces missing, and even taped together and it is accepted as is.) So don't accept any dollars from anyone if they have even the most insignificant tear! You can also exchange your money at any local
bank.
However, these agencies usually have money from many other countries whereas at banks you are limited to bolivianos and dollars.
