For Earth Day Bolivia 2012 we wanted to do something really significant to create more awareness regarding the need to protect and conserve Bolivia's amazing biodiversity, landscapes, ecosystems and environment. So we decided to ask YOU to help us do that! Bolivia is one of the top 10 most biodiverse countries on the planet and we want to keep it that way. You helped us show the world the beauty of Bolivia's nature and wildlife by participating in our Earth Day Bolivia 2012 photo contest.
We teamed up with the Earth Day Network for this project as our way of celebrating Earth Day Bolivia in 2012, and helping to create awareness about the importance of protecting our environment, wildlife and natural resources. The Earth Day Network, blogged about our Earth Day Bolivia photo contest and featured it on our profile on the Earth Day website.
The first Earth Day — widely recognized as the birth of the modern environmental movement — was organized in 1970 by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson and young activist Denis Hayes. 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums on April 22, 1970 to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment in massive coast-to-coast rallies. 42 years later, Earth Day is still going strong. Over one billion people in 192 countries now participate each year.
The theme for Earth Day 2012 is Mobilize the Earth™. In recent years, people have become frustrated by the lack of environmental protection and conservation. The Earth Day 2012 campaign provides people with the opportunity to unite their voices in a call for a sustainable future.
In addition, we enlisted Bolivia's top wildlife and nature photographer, Willy Kenning. Not only is he known throughout the world for his stunning photography, he has sold more books than any other Bolivian author. Mr. Kenning judged all photo entries and chose the final winner! He also sponsored our Earth Day Bolivia photo contest by providing the prize! The winning photo entry will receive an autographed copy of his book "6000+" which features some of the highest and most beautiful landscapes of Bolivia.

Also sponsoring this event is Santa Cruz Crece Verde (Santa Cruz Grows Green), a voluntary environmental education alliance formed as an Earth Day initiative in 2011 between the state government of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and our website, BoliviaBella.com. Our mission is to disseminate information on actions taken to conserve and protect our natural resources and environment in Bolivia, and to educate, raise awareness, position and create among the population a desire to keep our cities clean, and ensure our state develops in harmony with the environment, along with a deep respect for nature.
