Church Services Good Friday

All Catholic Churches in Bolivia hold church services on Good Friday (Viernes Santo). Most hold services throughout the day beginning at about 8 am and ending at about 9 pm. But each services has a specific meaning.

You'll find most churches will hold a service to celebrate the Passion of Christ (crucifixion) in the afternoon at about 3 pm or so. It usually includes a procession and the "misa" (Sermon de las Siete Palabras) or Sermon to remind us of the seven times Jesus spoke while he hung on the cross. After this most churches symbolically take Jesus off the cross and this is followed by a procession in which they symbolically carry a coffin (the Holy Sepulcre) through the streets.

I'm not sure exactly at what time the services will be in each city. Usually the schedule is printed in the Events or Society section of local newspapers or you could go to the cathedral and ask because they should be open all day.
