Can you tell me about moving to Bolivia with a newborn?

Hi I am from the caribbean but currently in new york because i'm pregnant and wanted superb medical care for me and my baby, who will be born in a few weeks. The baby's father is from Bolivia and I'm thinking of leaving her with him and his family when she's about 5 months old because i have to go back to school and cannot do so with a child. Has anyone traveled to Bolivia with a small child before? Do you think the altitude will affect much? And what about vaccinations etc? My boyfriend's family lives in Cochabamba and i dont know much about the area. He promises that he will take good care of the baby but I'm scared. Any advice??

This was in the news today about an American mom who took her child to Brazil to see her Brazilian father and now she can't leave Brazil.

Be careful.

I would be very wary of letting your child move to Bolivia alone with his/her father. How do you know you would ever get your child back? According to Bolivian law, if you ever traveled to Bolivia and tried to return to your country with your child, you would need the father's permission to leave Bolivia with the child. If for any reason the father should deny you permission to leave Bolivia with the child, you would not be able to recover your child. By the way, this applies even if you move to Bolivia with your child. You would still need the father's permission if you ever wanted to leave Bolivia.
