Bakeries and Tea Houses in Santa CruzRecetas en Español • Restaurant Review • Grocery Stores • Markets Bakeries and tea houses fill to capacity in Bolivia, where taking tea in the afternoon and eating dinner very late are integral parts of our customs and traditions. I’ve listed both under this section because typically these restaurants serve the same purpose. Between about 4 and 7 in the afternoon all sidewalk cafes and ice cream parlors (heladerías), along with the more traditional "pastelerías" (which specialize in decorated cakes), "panaderías" (which specialize in breads), and tea houses (known as salones de té) (all listed below) are filled to the brim as people gather to socialize. Bakeries are where you’ll go when you want to order food, pastries, and especially beautiful cakes for a party or other event. You’ll also find empanadas, zonzo, salteñas, masaco, cuñapés, cookies, pies, cheesecake, and all kinds of other teatime favorites along with a variety of juices and shakes. Most panaderías only sell their products, but some may have small seating areas as well. There are dozens! but here are a few favorites among locals, expats and tourists:
