American Airlines baggage restrictions are implemented for travel to and from specific cities in Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean during certain times of the year. For example, during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, between 1 December and 10 January, baggage is usually limited to two checked items and one carry-on. Boxes may not be checked in at all. Because there are limits on the amount of baggage that can be carried in the cabin and cargo areas based on the size of the aircraft, excess, oversized and overweight luggage are not accepted on flights covered by these restrictions, between the aforementioned dates. The rules apply to La Paz and Santa Cruz, Bolivia and numerous other cities in Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and other Latin American countries. Checked bags is typically limited to 50 pounds per piece, and 62 linear inches (this is the total you get by adding the length, width, and height). Carry-ons are limited to 40 pounds and 45 linear inches and you can carry one additional small item such as a purse or briefcase.
