Amazing Waterfalls at Noel Kempff

by Mark Dahl

HI,

I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU WHAT A GREAT TIME WE HAD ON A TRIP TO BOLIVIA AND NOEL KEMPF NATIONAL PARK IN MARCH 2008.

BOLIVIA IS VERY INTERESTING AND HAS GREAT POTENTIAL AS A DESTINATION. DESPITE POLITICAL POSTURING BY NATIONAL OFFICIALS WE FELT WELCOMED BY THE BOLIVIAN PEOPLE AND GAINED A DEEP APPRECIATION OF THEIR CHALLENGES.

WE PARTICULARLY ENJOYED OUR TRIP TO THE NORTHERN PART OF NOEL KEMPF NATIONAL PARK. GIJS AT RUTA VERDE TOURS WAS VERY ACCOMODATING IN ARRANGING OUR TOUR OF THE PARK. THE COST (WHICH INCLUDED A LOT OF FLYING TIME OVER EASTERN BOLIVIA AND THE NORTH PART OF THE PARK) WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

AFTER LANDING AT FLOR DE ORO, THE TRIP UP THE RIVER TO AHFELD CAMP WAS GREAT FUN. WE FELT COMPLETELY SAFE IN THE HANDS OF OUR EXPERT GUIDE & BOAT OPERATOR FERNANDO. WE SAW LOTS OF BIRDS, A CAIMAN, TURTLES, MONKEYS AND MANY BUTTERFLIES. THE CAMP IS RUSTIC BUT JUST FINE.

THE HIKE TO AHFELD WATERFALL IS EASY AND THE HIKE TO ARCO IRIS WATERFALL IS LONG BUT INTERESTING AS WE WENT THROUGH CHANGES IN ELEVATION. WE STARTED IN RAIN FOREST AND GRADUALLY TRANSITIONED TO JUNGLE AND THEN SCRUB WITH CACTUS AT THE TOP OF THE ESCARPMENT. THE WATERFALLS ARE BREATHTAKING AND THE SCENERY WONDERFUL. WE SAW LOTS OF FLORA AND FAUNA ALONG THE WAY. THE STAFF AT THE CAMP AND AT FLOR DE ORO TOOK GOOD CARE OF US AND THE FOOD WAS GREAT.

WE HEARTILY RECOMMEND RUTA VERDE TOURS AND WISH TO THANK GIJS FOR A JOB WELL DONE.

THANK YOU, MARK
